Satellite measurements of daily variations in soil NOx emissions

چکیده
[1] Soil NOx emission from agricultural regions in the western United States has been investigated using satellite observations of NO2 from the SCIAMACHY instrument. We show that the SCIAMACHY observations over a 2 million hectare agricultural region in Montana capture the short intense NOx pulses following fertilizer application and subsequent precipitation and we demonstrate that these variations can be reproduced by tuning the mechanistic parameters in an existing model of soil NOx emissions. Anthropogenic emissions of NOx over China: Reconciling the difference of inverse modeling results using GOME2 and OMI measurements
Inverse modeling using satellite observations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) columns has been extensively used to estimate nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions in China. Recently, the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) and Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) provide independent global NO2 column measurements on a nearly daily basis at around 9:30 and 13:30 local time across the equator, respecti...
متن کاملBiogenic nitrogen oxide emissions from soils: impact on NOx and ozone over west Africa during AMMA (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis): observational study
Chemical and meteorological parameters measured on board the Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements (FAAM) BAe 146 Atmospheric Research Aircraft during the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) campaign are presented to show the impact of NOx emissions from recently wetted soils in West Africa. NO emissions from soils have been previously observed in many geographical areas ...
متن کاملSupplement of Responses of surface ozone air quality to anthropogenic nitrogen deposi- tion in the Northern Hemisphere
Section S1 The section describes modifications we implemented to the CLM v4.5 model for better simulating the soil NOx emissions and also reducing the model LAI overestimation. These include addition of soil NOx emission and NH3 volatilization 10 processes, and an improved parameterization of nitrogen uptake by plants. We evaluate the CLM simulated results with satellite LAI observations and so...
متن کاملControls over N2O, NOx and CO2 fluxes in a calcareous mountain forest soil
We measured nitrogen oxides (N2O and NOx), dinitrogen (N2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from a spruce-fir-beech forest soil in the North Tyrolean limestone Alps in Austria. The site received 10.6–11.9 kg N ha−1 y−1 nitrogen as bulk deposition. Fluxes of nitric oxide (NO) were measured by an automatic dynamic chamber system on an hourly basis over a two year period. Daily N2O emissions wer...
متن کاملInverse modelling of the spatial distribution of NOx emissions on a continental scale using satellite data
The recent important developments in satellite measurements of the composition of the lower atmosphere open the challenging perspective to use such measurements as independent information on sources and sinks of atmospheric pollutants. This study explores the possibility to improve estimates of gridded NOx emissions used in a continental scale chemistry transport model (CTM), CHIMERE, by employ...
